Consumer Price Index (CPI), a measure of changes in consumer prices, is commonly referred to as the rate
of inflation. The chart below compares the annual changes in average prices for auto body work to all items.
Since 2006, the average annual cost of auto body work has increased at an annual rate of 2.5 percent, 0.7
percent higher than the rate of inflation (1.8 percent) during that same period. Last year, consumer prices for
auto body work increased 2.4 percent, compared to 1.3 percent for all items.
