State Summary Statistics
Americans drove their vehicles an average of 11,877 miles in 2016. Mississippi had the highest ratio of miles
driven per registered vehicle (14,955), followed by New Mexico (14,749) and Alabama (14,246). Contrastingly,
states with low miles driven to registered vehicle ratios included Alaska (7,659), Pennsylvania (8,552),
Washington (9,250) and Rhode Island (9,291).
