Reasons for Internet Tool Shopping
The survey suggests that the respondents found more competitive tool pricing online than from jobbers
or distributors . More than half of all respondents (55 . 8 percent) reported the ability to get better price
influenced their decision to purchase tools online . More than a third of the respondents (34 . 7 percent)
shopped online for tools that were unavailable from their current suppliers . Only 4 . 2 percent reported not
being able to obtain the same level of service from their current suppliers, while 5 . 3 percent shopped
online for other reasons . Online shopping differed markedly by respondents’ employment roles . Three
out of five respondents (62 . 5 percent) who shopped online for better prices were parts managers,
compared to owners (29 . 7 percent) who could not get the tools from their current suppliers .
