Overview
Respondents rated the importance of a few selected factors influencing their equipment purchasing decisions.
The mean ratings were based on a 5-point scale, where 1 = not important and 5 = very important.
The survey results show that respondents incorporate a wide range of factors into their equipment purchasing
decision-making process. These factors ranged from “warranty,” “strong brand name,” to “advertising or
promotions.” The 2017 survey confirms previous survey results that “warranty” (4.16 mean) still remains the most
important influential factor in any equipment purchasing decision. The respondents reported “warranty” taking
precedence over advertising/promotions and seller’s recommendation when they decide on which equipment
to purchase.
Where the equipment was manufactured, its strong brand name and the retailer’s ability to deliver the
equipment in a timely fashion also factored in the purchaser’s decision-making process. “Made in USA”
was rated 3.88 mean, followed by “strong brand name” (3.87) and “fast delivery” of the equipment (3.84).
Not nearly as important were “advertising or promotions” (2.45 mean) and sellers’ “recommendations”
(2.62 mean). 4.41
